The Fandom Oscars

The Fandom Oscars.jpg

Hey guys! How’s it going? So the Oscars are on Sunday, and at least 60% of the reason I’m excited is because Leonardo DiCaprio is nominated again, and the thought that I might actually live to see Leo get an Oscar is amazing. However, if he wins and doesn’t start his speech with “Finally, all the internet jokes will stop.”, I will be very disappointed.

Anyways, I decided to host my own Oscars for my fandoms. The rules are that the show must have aired, or the movie premiered, from anywhere in between last year until now, and I must have seen it, as it’s hard to choose winners/nominees for something I haven’t seen. Maybe next year I’ll get other people to help choose them, and it’ll be like a real awards show.

So the categories are: The Best Cinnamon Roll, The Best ‘Liar Liar Pants On Fire’, The Most Relatable Character, The Best Couple, and The Show/Movie Most Anticipated Show/Movie. Let’s get started!

The Best Cinnamon Roll

The nominees are: Edwin Jarvis in Agent Carter, Daniel Sousa in Agent Carter, and Barry Allen in The Flash.

And the winner is…

Barry Allen!

There’s not any specific reason that Barry is the most cinnamon rolliest out of the nominees, except that he just is. He’s a perfect human being who just wants to do the right thing, and a beautiful cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure.

The Best ‘Liar Liar Pants On Fire’

The nominees are: The Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who, Daniel Sousa in Agent Carter, Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin in Once Upon A Time, and Natasha Romanoff in Age Of Ultron.

And the winner is…

Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin!

After that big reveal at the end of the winter finale of OUAT, there’s no question that he is not to be trusted and has been playing everyone, including the viewers, the entire time. Congrats! (I guess, I mean it’s not the most complimentary catagory.)

Rumple dark one again

The Most Relatable Character

The nominees are: Edwin Jarvis in Agent Carter, and Clara Oswald in Doctor Who.

And the winner is..

Edwin Jarvis!

I don’t think anyone would deny that we all have at least a little Jarvis in us. His reactions to Peggy and Howard and this whole thing that he’s gotten himself into are just perfect and real.

Jarvis and Bernard.gif

The Best Couple

The nominees are: Emma Swan and Killian Jones in Once Upon A Time, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons in Agents of SHIELD, Peggy Carter and Daniel Sousa in Agent Carter, and The Twelfth Doctor and River Song in Doctor Who.

And the winner is…

It was a hard choice, but really FitzSimmons really did the most for their relationship this year. A couple of years ago it could have been CaptainSwan, and maybe next year Peggy and Sousa will win it (do we have a decent ship name for them yet?) but this year all the feels goes to FitzSimmons. May you become even more canon in this next year!

FitzSimmons kiss.gif

The Most Anticipated Show/Movie

(This category is special because instead of having to air/premiere last year, it’s has to do so next year.)

The nominees are: Agents Of SHIELD Season 3b, Captain America: Civil War, Batman V Superman, Doctor Strange, and Once Upon A Time Season 5b.

And the winner is…

Captain America: Civil War!

As if there was really any question. I mean, this movie has broken the fandom and it hasn’t even come out yet. Only 69 more days…

Captain America Civil War.jpg

Let’s give a big round of applause to our winners here today.

Thanks for reading! I’m sorry I didn’t post last week, I ran out of time to write anything, so I had to just take a week off. If you follow me on Twitter, you can get updates like that for if something happens, and also sometimes I’m funny. Or at least I share someone else being funny.

And other than that shameless plug, what do you think of our winners here today? Would you have chosen anyone else to nominate/win? Is Leo finally going to get his Oscar? Comment! Follow me! Thank you!

My Favorite Ships

Hey guys! How are you? Happy Valentine’s day!

If you were a fruit you'd be a fineapple

So this week I’m unashamedly stealing my topic from A Scattering Of Light, where she listed her Favorite Fictional Couples, and I liked the idea, because I could talk for days about my ships. So here are mine, not really in any particular order.

Rose Ten Forever.gif

The Doctor (both Nine and Ten) and Rose hold a special place in my heart as my first OTP. I’ll never be over their story. I don’t really have anything specific to say about them, other than they make me very happy.

Twelve and River

Oh, Rivah. She and the Doctor have maybe the strangest love story, but it really works. I always get really excited for The Impossible Astronaut two parter, bc they’re just so adorable.

“Doctor Song, you’ve got that face on again.”
“What face?”
“The he’s-hot-when-he’s-clever face.”
“This is my normal face.”
“Yes it is.”
“Oh shut up.”

Oh, and this is my absolute favorite ship video ever. It’s mostly in the order of River’s timeline over A Thousand Years. So good.

As you may have noticed from the 15 posts I’ve written about Once Upon A Time, that show gives me all the feels, and I cannot wait for it to come back from hiatus. Especially for a show that I started thinking “I’ll watch it but I won’t actually be IN the fandom, it’s not really my thing.” hahaha. ha.

And CaptainSwan just gives me all the feels too. I just can’t handle them. They’re so sweet, and Killian would do anything for her, and they just helped each other out of the rut of a bad childhood (and what hadn’t been such a great adult life so far either).

I haven’t really shipped it from the beginning, like some people have, I didn’t not ship it, but I was ok with just friends. But they’ve got me now, man. I mean, it was “wow ok I do ship it- wait what no bad rock no whos Will stop it”

Anyways, I can’t wait for this show to come back too. Isn’t it March yet? sigh.

So yeah, those are some of my favorite ships. Honorable mention to Daniel/Peggy and Rumbelle, you guys are great too. (mostly.) Shoutout  to A Scattering Of Light for inspiring this post, go follow her. And I help write a new parody, Frie Rice. Go check them both out! Who are your favorite ships? Comment! Follow me! Thank you!

Hype and Denial – CA: Civil War

Hey guys! How’s it going?  Nice weather, right? (You can take that sarcastically or seriously, depending on what it’s like where you are.)

Today I want to talk about one of the biggest events of our time, a giant battle, forcing people to choose a side: Civil War. Not the actual American Civil War, Captain America: Civil War, which is a much bigger deal. (kidding)

In 3 months tomorrow, Civil War will premiere, and I can’t wait. I’m not the only one, the memes have overtaken the Internet a little bit, not to mention the references and the general crying over Bucky Barnes, which has just escalated since the trailer came out.

*Speculative spoilers ahead*

One of the most concerning things being thrown around, however, is if Captain America is going to die in the movie. That’s mainly because (I’m pretty sure) Steve Rogers dies in the Civil War comic book storyline, and the Winter Soldier takes over as Captain America. This added with some over-analyzing of the trailer, and you get some very worried fangirls.

This concerns me enormously Tim Gunn.gif

I personally refuse to believe it. Partly (mostly) out of pure denial, but also because Marvel generally makes you sign a contract for a certain number of movies when sign on. Sebastian Stan (Bucky), for example, has said that he signed for nine picture contract.

Screen Crush is kind enough to give a complete breakdown of all the Marvel actors contracts/how many they’ve completed here. (it’s actually really cool, check it out) Chris Evans has a six picture contract, and between The First Avenger and Civil War, he’s only done five. Not to mention, when I was searching for that information, I found articles and interviews of Chris saying he would definitely be interested in extending his contract. For example, here is a video of him saying “If they want me, they’ve got me.”

There is still hope.gif

I know the sixth movie could easily just be a flashback in Infinity War, and since Sebestian has such a large contract they could easily go that route. But Marvel has never stuck strictly to the comics before. So it’s not exactly proof that they can’t kill him in Civil War, but it’s enough to give me hope. And that little bit of hope is all I need to strengthen my Shield of Denial. Although I can do that pretty well on my own.

So what do you guys think? My main defence against anything I don’t like, fandom-wise, is denial, and while it doesn’t always work, it can help when you can pretend it just didn’t happen. What about you? Comment! Follow me! Thank you!

Steven Moffat Appreciation Post

Steven Moffat Appreciation Post

Hey guys! How are you? I can’t wait until January is over; it’s always such a blah month. It feels like nothing is happening, or at least that’s how I feel.

However, one thing that did happen this month, just last week, was that Steven Moffat announced that he was leaving Doctor Who after Season 10, Chris Chibnall was taking his place, and there would only be a Christmas Special in 2016, with Season 10 airing the next spring. I was shocked and slightly embarrassed at the sight of Larry in a towel-no wait. Wrong thing. I was shocked and sad, I like Moffat (even if I feel like I’m the only one, but more on that at the end) and he’s done good things for our show, so I thought I’d take a moment to remember a few of those things.

For example, this past time I watched Season 5 was the first time I wasn’t slightly bitter at Eleven that Ten was gone, and I was really struck with how good those episodes are. That was Moffat’s first season as showrunner, and he did an amazing job. The Eleventh Hour, Vampires of Venice, The Pandorica, are all amazing, not to mention Vincent And The Doctor, which is everyone’s favorite episode.

Not to mention, he’s someone to yell at. There’s nothing better than having someone to blame and shake your fist at, even if he actually had nothing to do with it. For example, I had a sudden realization that ATMOS, the GPS thing from the Sontaran Stratagem with the poison gas, that thing is actually short for Atmosphere. (Yes I know that it’s an anagram in the episode, but that can’t be just a coincidence) Of course, my first instinct was to say “MOFAAT!” before realizing that that was a season 4 episode that he probably didn’t write.

Opens mouth puts up finger closes mouth drops finger

However, my favorite thing the Moffat has done is create River Song.

I absolutely love her, her story is unique and amazing, and without Steven Moffat she never would have been written. From Silence In The Library to The Husbands Of River Song, River has been the most interesting (and rather confusing) character in NewWho, if not ClassicWho too.

One last thing I want to say: You don’t have to love Moffat, you don’t have to love Clara, but please, be nice. Always complaining about the show will make people not watch it, and people not watching it makes BBC cancel it. It’s one thing to not love what’s going on, it’s one thing to say so, it’s another to never have anything good to say about it. And besides all that, it’s pretty rude. So please, be nice, and remember that not everyone shares your feelings, and that’s ok.

That being said, what’s one thing you like about Moffat? Comment! Follow me! Thank you!

The Husbands Of River Song – My Thoughts

The Husbands Of River Song My Thoughts

Hey guys! How’s it going? It finally snowed here, so I’m happy about that. There’s not actually that much, but at least it looks pretty on the roofs. And since there’s snow, I’m gonna talk about the Doctor Who Christmas special, The Husbands Of River Song, cause I haven’t done that yet and snow makes me feel like Christmas.

I was so excited when I heard that River Song was coming back, and the special did not disappoint me. I liked that she didn’t know who he was, even though really, she would have known. She’s not an idiot. But I’m ok with overlooking that for the sake of them switching places. I mean, in a way it was the opposite of their first episode, way back in season 4 in the library. She had no idea who he was, and I mean the quote at the end of the episode:

“All anyone will ever tell you is that when the wind stands fair and the night is perfect, when you least expect it but always when you need it the most there is a song.”

And the thing from Silence in the Library:

“Now and then, every once in a very long while, every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair, and the Doctor comes to call, everyone lives.”

Also, why the heck didn’t they kiss after that? Come on. Even my mom was bitter about that.

I can't believe the Doctor didn't kiss her

Anyways, other than the not remembering and the not kissing things, I really enjoyed it. Here are some of my highlights:

RAMONE: Please, look after her for me
My dad: There’s no one in the universe that can look after her.

CYBORG: Inquiry. Are you acquainted with the criminal River Song?
Me: Rude she was totally pardoned ages ago.

River I was pardoned ages ago2 - Copy

DOCTOR: Oh. My, God! Oh, it’s bigger!
RIVER: Well, yes.
DOCTOR: On the inside,
RIVER: We need to concentrate.
DOCTOR: Than it is
RIVER: I know where you’re going with this, but I need you to calm down.
DOCTOR: On the outside!
RIVER: You’ve certainly grasped the essentials.
DOCTOR: My entire understanding of physical space has been transformed! Three-dimensional Euclidean geometry has been torn up, thrown in the air and snogged to death! My grasp of the universal constants of physical reality has been changed forever.
(River has gone down the stairs.)
DOCTOR: Sorry. I’ve always wanted to see that done properly.

He enjoyed that waaay too much.

Twelve finally.png

It’s my go.

And I just really loved the ‘he doesn’t love me’ speech at the end. Alex Kingston is amazing. And I love that he teased her about it too. And I just love the Doctor and River. They will always be amazing.

And they both lived happily ever after1And they both lived happily ever after2And they both lived happily ever after3

Shout out to for their transcripts, they’re amazing, go check it out, and Alex Kingston and Peter Capaldi for being amazing actors. What did you think about this episode? Do you have any snow? And do you like it that way? Comment! Follow me! Thank you!

Agent Carter – You should try it

Agent Carter You should try it

Hey guys! Wassup? Is everyone back at school? I am, and I take back what I said last week about being ready to start again because I was bored. I’d rather be bored.

Is it just me, or does the spring semester seem longer? Maybe because it’s also partly winter, and there’s not really any holidays until Valentines Day, but it seems like everything is so slow to start up again. Most bi-annual things, whether they’re TV shows or extracurricular activities, don’t start again until March. However there are two exceptions to that: The Flash, which you should totally watch , and Agent Carter, which I’m getting to. (smooth transition, eh?) They both start Tuesday, the 19th,

Agent Carter hasn’t really gotten much attention apart from its small, but dedicated, fanbase. This probably mostly stems from the fact that Netflix has yet to add it. However, if you’ve wanted to watch it (and even if you haven’t) this is your lucky day, because ABC has the entire first season available to stream here. I’ve been watching it again in preparation for season 2, and honestly the number of ads it has are ridiculous, but it’s so good.(UPDATE: Hulu also has it now, so that’s another option if you have that.) Plus, it’s only 8 episodes so if you’re in the middle of another show, it won’t take long to nip over and watch Agent Cater real quick.

So that note, here are three reasons why you should definitely check it out.

Peggy Carter is amazingness itself

Seriously, she is amazing. She stands up for herself, without being pushy about it, and is just a really great character. Plus, as you can see, the entire fanbase is extremely attached to her (myself included).

Edwin Jarvis is me

In addition to being just an awesome person in general, I can relate to him on a personal level. Like this Buzzfeed post sums up (with minor language/spoilers), he’s pretty much a big ball of sass, butler, and perfectness all rolled up.

(all these gifs courtesy of said Buzzfeed article)

Daniel Sousa is a precious cinnamon roll

Not in a “protect him at all costs” kind of way, in a “you can do it, I believe in you, go get ’em” sort of way. But also a little bit of the first.

He’s a beautiful human being, inside and out, and he’d better be the husband Peggy talked about in The Winter Soldier.

Yes ma'am. Doesn't mean I have to like it. || Daniel Sousa || AC 1x01 Now is Not the End || 245px × 135px || #animated #quotes

Daniel Sousa || AC 1x01 Now is Not the End || 268px × 150px || #animated

He can also be extremely sassy, but he is’nt all the time, so when it comes out, it’s amazing.

Sousa sass:

Also, as an honorable mention, at this point in my rewatching (three episodes in) I’m 98% sure Jack Thompson is Grant Ward’s (great?) grandfather. Not in their actions or anything, but I’ve noticed a lot of similarities in their facial expressions. Someone please tell me if I’m crazy but I’m pretty sure they’re related.

And even if you don’t watch Agents of Shield, you should totally watch Agent Carter anyway. As you can see from the above three characters, there is plenty of awesomeness to go around, and if you watch Agent Carter, you might catch some of it too.

Book Recommendation: Agatha Christie

Book Recommendation Agatha Christie

Hey guys? How’s it going? I’ve been celebrating my last week before school starts by being bored and unmotivated. In other words, this break has been lovely, but I’m ready to go back and have something to do.

Anyways, one of the things I have done this break is read. I got several books on Cyber Monday, three of which were Agatha Christie’s, and they are so good. If you like a good murder mystery, you can’t get more classic than her. Except for maybe Sherlock Holmes. But still.

And even if mysteries aren’t your thing, the books are still really good. I don’t think I’ve ever figured out who the murderer was ahead of time. She even fooled the Doctor once.

Ten and Agatha Christie1Ten and Agatha Christie2Ten and Agatha Christie3

On a side note, that’s one of my favorite episodes. The poisoning scene… amazing. And the more I read Agatha Christie the more I realized a lot of her lines are actually titles of her books. “They do it with mirrors”, “The body in the library”, “The secret adversary” etc etc. In this transcript of that episode, all the titles are in italics, which is cool.

Anyways, with Agatha Christie, it’s always the person you least expect, while there is still always a completely logical explanation on why THEY murdered dear old Mrs. Smith.

You can also choose your preferred amount of creepy in her books. For example, generally the Miss Marple ones are not as scary as the Poirot ones, the Poirot ones can vary, and I’ve never met a book yet that scared me more than ‘And Then There Were None’. But it’s so good. You might not sleep for a week, but you’ll be amazed at the same time.

She wrote 73 novels in her lifetime, and it can be daunting to figure out where to start, so here are my recommendations on where to start. For Miss Marple, ‘The Body In The Library’ is a good one, and so is ‘Murder At The Vicarage’. ‘Murder On The Orient Express’, ‘The A. B. C. Murders’, and ‘The Murder of Roger Ackroyd’,  are all (Poirot) classics, and for a good reason. And of course, I still would recommend ‘And Then There Were None’, if you dare… Wahahahahah!

evil laugh mlp fluttershy mlpfim

Ahem. Right.

Anyways, seriously. Go read her. There’s a reason she’s so famous.

It’s 2K16!

Hey guys! How was your Christmas and New Years? Did you get lots of cool stuff, and party all night long?

My Christmas was pretty great, even if we didn’t get to watch the Doctor Who Christmas special because BBCA was not working. Like, we turned it on a couple minutes before, watched the last few minutes of the finale, and it stopped working. Thanks Time Warner Cable.

Jim face

But other than that, it was good. I got a keyboard, which is nice cause I can play the Lord of the Rings soundtrack with the right instruments, without having to learn the flute.

So it’s 2016! A lot has happened in 2015, like moving out of state, cutting my hair to a pixie (if 10 year old me could see me now with short hair and a red leather jacket, I wouldn’t believe it), and of course, starting this blog.

Like, it’s kinda amazing to me even writing this post. If I had started this a couple of years ago, I bet I would have done it regularly for about 2 months, gotten bored of it and been on and off for another couple, and been completely (if guiltily) gone by 6 months. But I started this blog, committed to posting every week, and stuck to it. A post every week for 35 weeks straight; the first time I didn’t was on Christmas Day (and I was gonna post something but forgot, oops).

And y’all have helped that, by commenting, shout out to marlapaige for having 5 times as  many comments as the next person, liking, or even just reading my ramblings about things that I would’ve thought I was the only one who would care. You guys are awesome.

You're Awesome

So WordPress sent out a ‘Year in Blogging’, which was cool (and how I knew the stats from above, lol)

“The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 920 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 15 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

I didn’t know San Francisco cable cars were a normal measurement for that kind of thing, did you?

This year, fandom wise, I joined the Flash and Agent Carter fandoms, rewatched NewWho, Once Upon a Time, and Psych (all of which are not short shows) and I’m sure other stuff I can’t remember that that was this year. Netflix should send out stats for 2015 too. “You watched 1232 hours, 2165 episodes, 56 shows, and 32 movies this year. Your record for the most watched in the shortest amount of time is the 23 episodes of The Flash in a week.” Although it may be kind of scary to know.

Anyways, thank you all for coming along for my first year of blogging! I enjoyed myself, and I hope you did too. What did you guys do/get for Christmas/New Years? What did you do in 2015? Comment! Follow me! See you next year!

P. S. Sherlock comes back tonight!! I can’t wait.

Ah It's Christmas

You’re Only A True Fan If…

If you’ve seen every episode twice

If you can quote every major scene verbatim

If you’ve read the comics

If you written at least 2 fanfics about it

If you ship this pairing

If you cried at that one part

If you dress like it

If you have a blog about it

If you plan on naming your children after your favorite character

If you’ve read the book

If you’ve seen the movie

If you can name 5 other things about it

If you hang from the ceiling and spin around in circles, providing cool air for everyone around you

There are a lot of things that people will say to put criteria on what makes someone a fan of something. I don’t know why, it could be that they make themselves feel better by setting rules that make them a better fan, or it could be that they do believe that if you haven’t read the book, you can’t be a real fan.

The criteria to being a fan is if the person calls them self a fan. Do think that you’re a fan of Doctor Who? Yes? Good. You’re a fan. I don’t care if you’ve seen 5 minutes of one episode, if you think you’re a fan, then that’s all that matters.

And you’re not less of a fan than anyone else unless you yourself say so. I’m a fan of the Percy Jackson series. I enjoy the books and read the author’s other books and enjoy them too. However, I look at other fans and say, “You know what, I’m not as big of a fan of it as they are. And that’s ok.” On the other hand, if someone told me I wasn’t as much of a fan of Doctor Who as them, because I haven’t watched all of ClassicWho, I wouldn’t agree with them. I know how much of a fan I am, and no one else’s opinion matters.

There is no independent variable when it comes to being a fan. There is no set point for being a fan to be judged on, no rankings.

You’re only a true fan if you think you are.

You’re a true fan if you haven’t read the book. You’re a true fan if you haven’t seen the movies. You’re a true fan if you say “You’re not a true fan.” No one can tell you if you’re a fan or not.

Also, since next Friday is Christmas, I don’t think there’ll be a blog post next week, for the first time since I started this blog. But I might get bored or inspired or want to tell you what I think of the DW Christmas special RIGHT THEN, so we’ll see. Comment! Follow me! See you in two Fridays!

You should watch the Flash

Why you should watch the Flash

Hey guys! What’s up? Is everyone finishing up finals? You’re almost done! Just hold on!

Once you’re finished, though, and gotten home and relaxed, you’ll have a long list of shows to catch up on and/or binge watch. Or maybe you don’t have a list, and you need to find something. Well, this is my spoiler-free argument for watching the Flash. (And by argument, I mean rambling and fangirling cause I had finals too)

First of all, The Flash/Barry Allen is a perfect human being. Even aside from being adorable, he probably has the most morals out of any of my fictional crushes, and is literally a beautiful cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure.

And these don’t even do him justice, ok. His mannerisms are perfect too and asjkdasjd. Go watch at least a little so you’ll know what I mean.

But really, all the characters are pretty amazing. There’s not anyone I dislike (except for maybe for a couple of episodes) and they’re all pretty great. If not as great as Barry.

And I think the stories are pretty good too. I’m not as good of a judge on that, I’m much more character oriented, but I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I mean, I literally watched 24 episodes in a week (including a day when I wasn’t able to watch it at all). There were plot twists in season 1 I did not see coming, and overall I loved it.

So yeah. I know this is random and short, sorry, it was finals week and my brain was like “I have a blank space baby” so I wrote Barry’s name. So if you’ve watched the Flash, comment and talk to me about it, and if you haven’t watched it, comment and talk to me about it. Just go ahead and comment, follow me, and I’ll see you next Friday!
